Is this leather thread suitable for beginners?

Yes, though finer threads (0.35 - 0.45mm) require a bit more control. Visit our leather thread sizing guide for more information.

Is the thread pre-waxed?

Yes, it is lightly pre-waxed. Heavier threads may need a little extra waxing and for this we recommend our British beeswax block.

What leather thickness is it best for?

The 0.35-0.55mm threads are ideal for thin to medium-weight leather. For heavier leather use the 0.65mm thread, or consider our thicker alternatives of 0.85mm threads or 1.0 mm threads.

How does it compare to synthetic thread?

Linen offers a more traditional look, while synthetics prioritise durability. Read our comparison guide of Linen vs Polyester thread for more information.

Help With Selecting the Right Thread Size

Size Thickness Stitches Per Inch Best For Look
M30 ~0.3 mm 10–12 SPI (2.0–2.5 mm) Watch straps, luxury small leather goods, ultra-fine stitching Very refined / minimal
M40 ~0.35 mm 9–10 SPI (2.5–2.8 mm) Wallets, cardholders, fine detail work Clean & subtle
M50 ~0.45 mm 7–9 SPI (2.8–3.5 mm) General leathercraft, wallets, small bags Balanced everyday
M60 ~0.55 mm 6–8 SPI (3.5–4.0 mm) Belts, bags, durable leather goods Visible / slightly bold
M70 ~0.65 mm 5–7 SPI (4.0–5.0 mm) Heavy-duty leatherwork, saddlery Bold statement
How to Choose the Right Size • For a luxury, high-end look → choose finer threads (M30–M40) with tighter spacing
• For everyday leather goods → M50 is the most versatile choice
• For durability and visible stitching → go thicker (M60–M70)
• Rule of thumb: thicker thread = wider stitch spacing
